Inheritance / Wirasat Calculator

Estimate distribution of a Muslim estate for common Sunni Hanafi family structures, after funeral expenses, enforceable debts and a valid will. Pakistani statutory exceptions and complex heir combinations require professional review.

Estate and heirs

Enter only assets owned by the deceased at death. Joint, disputed, gifted, benami, matrimonial or trust property requires separate legal determination.

1Net distributable estate
Generally limited to one-third after expenses and debts, and ordinarily not for an heir without heirs’ consent.
2Immediate surviving heirs
Used only for the mother’s 1/3 or 1/6 test. Sibling shares are not calculated.

Order before inheritance

  1. Identify only the deceased’s legally owned estate.
  2. Meet reasonable funeral and burial expenses.
  3. Pay enforceable debts, including unpaid dower where applicable.
  4. Apply a valid wasiyyah within the lawful limit and conditions.
  5. Distribute the residue among legally entitled heirs.

Core Qur’anic shares used

  • Husband: 1/2 without descendants; 1/4 with descendants.
  • Wife or wives collectively: 1/4 without descendants; 1/8 with descendants.
  • Mother: commonly 1/3, reduced to 1/6 where descendants or two or more siblings exist; special parent-spouse cases require the one-third-of-residue rule.
  • Father: residuary without descendants; with descendants, his treatment varies according to whether sons or daughters survive.
  • Children as residuaries: each son receives twice the share of each daughter.
  • One daughter without a son: 1/2; two or more daughters without a son: collectively 2/3, subject to other heirs and adjustment rules.
